"Ms. Samuels delved into the layers of this topic, discussing the ways in which racist stereotypes such as the “Welfare Queen” myth and the assumption of lesser intelligence influences some medical professionals to discriminate against Black patients. Vine Samuels draws her insights from decades of professional work in public health. The cycle of health disparities in one that needs to end if we are to build an equitable society. The first step is to understand the problem. Next, we can educate others and occupy roles which may allow us to implement changes. Ms. Samuels has carved out a path which can be a blueprint for others who wish to see those goals carried out.”
